What is an academic coach?

Are your evenings a whirlwind of making dinner, helping your kids with homework, and preparing for the day ahead? Imagine having someone on hand to guide your child through his or her homework, freeing you up to focus on other activities and spend the precious one-on-one time with your child reading a book together or catching up on the day.

An academic coach helps a child focus, prioritize, set goals, and achieve them, allowing parents to accomplish other things. Not tutoring in the traditional sense, a coach focuses on developing positive study skills, skills that will serve them for years to come.

How does it work?

  • Successful academic coaching relies on regular contact that is managed by the child. Your child and I set up a schedule that works for him or her and then check in—via phone, Google Hangout, FaceTime, or other means—several times a week and, if needed, on the weekend.
  • I take notes and leave updates on a Google Doc, Word document, or e-mail that I share with parents daily.
  • An affordable monthly fee allows for an average of 15 minutes a weekday—about 75 minutes a week. Extra time for exam prep or tutoring support can be arranged on a case-by-case basis. For more information and a fee schedule, please contact me.
